Bio

 

Malgorzata Oakes is a Polish born artist residing in New York. She holds a Ph.D. from the Scientific Interdisciplinary Program in the Arts at the Doctoral School of the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art & Design in Wrocław, Poland. Oakes obtained her MFA in Printmaking and Painting at the Academy of Art & Design, Wrocław. She is an Assistant Professor of Studio Art at Marist College.

Her work is exhibited nationally and internationally with solo exhibitions in France, Spain and Poland. Oakes has shown in Mini Maxi Print Berlin, Germany; International Screen Print Biennale, Tokyo, Japan; International Printmaking Triennial MTG – Kraków, Poland and the MEGALO Print Studio & Gallery, Australia. She is a recipient of local and international fellowships and scholarships in addition to competitive residency programs and Visiting Professor appointments at the Academy of Art & Design in Wrocław and the Doctoral School of the University at the National Education Commission in Kraków, Poland.

In addition to being an active educator and a multidisciplinary artist, Oakes devoted her recent years to the research pertaining to sustainability in the arts. She is passionate about sharing her expertise on safer printmaking while teaching at Women’s Studio Workshop, Anderson Ranch Center, and Manhattan Graphics Center. Her most recent publication includes Power of electro-etching Article in Printmaking Today. Outside the classroom, Oakes vigorously works on collective projects with Indigenous Communities, European artists, and educators.
