Bio

Malgorzata Oakes is a Polish-born artist, educator, and researcher known for her work in sustainable, non-toxic printmaking methods. Her creative work includes prints, drawings, and paper installations that examine genetic memory, identity, and environmental issues. She is an Assistant Professor of Studio Art at Marist University.

Oakes is a leading innovator in electro-etching who is also interested in the use of modern technology in traditional fine arts. She earned both her Ph.D. and MFA from the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art & Design in Wrocław, Poland. She has been awarded residencies at prestigious institutions such as Frans Masereel Centrum in Belgium, Zea Mays Printmaking in Massachusetts, and Gran Canaria, Spain. Her work has been featured in international exhibitions and her research has been published in professional journals. Her prints and installations have been part of profound exhibitions, including Mini Maxi Print Berlin and the International Printmaking Triennial MTG – Kraków. Her research on non-toxic methods was published in the journal Printmaking Today

As an Assistant Professor of Studio Art, she shares her expertise in drawing, printmaking, and book arts. She teaches community-based workshops at institutions like the Women's Studio Workshop and Anderson Ranch Arts Center. She also engages in collaborative projects with various communities, including underrepresented, Indigenous, and European artists.
